Dear Creekside Families,
We have three successful weeks under our belts here at Creekside! What are we up to? Well, it's a labor of love, setting up an entirely new culture and community. Our staff is working right now to...
...establish our collective commitments. Here are the commitments our teachers have to one another and to our kids.
- We value a culture of learning, so we use research-validated teaching practices, focus on academic, social, and emotional growth, and make decisions based on data.
- We value compassion, so we commit to supporting one another, listening in order to understand, and respecting one another’s needs and differences.
- We value community, so we commit to having fun, laughing, and finding the joy in learning and teaching together.
...establish our mission. We are reading together about The Circle of Courage and using it as a foundation for our mission. Soon we'll be able to articulate this mission to you!
...establish our system of student leadership. We value student leadership and this year we will work to develop a model for our Stingers to develop and hone their leadership skills! Stay tuned.
...establish our system of interventions. At Creekside, we want each of our students to have access to the core curriculum for his or her grade level. But what about when a child already knows the material, or needs additional support to master the material? This is where a system of interventions comes in. Stay tuned for information about how we will intervene with each and every child and ensure timely, appropriate instruction every day.
Here are a few more things for you to know about:
Creekside is a Title I School...come find out more at our PTSO meeting on Tuesday!
Please click here to read about what this means. Also, make plans to attend our PTSO meeting on Tuesday night, October 13 at 6 pm either in person in our school library (please wear masks) OR on Zoom. Here is the link to the meeting.
At this meeting, we will share important information about our Parent Involvement Plan, as well as more information about Title I as described here.
Student Vacations and Absences
Did you know that every student absence must be called in to the school every day? Sometimes parents do not realize that once a child is enrolled in school, regardless of his or her age, the school and the parents must be in daily communication when the child does not attend. So, please call the 24-hour attendance hotline at 509-867-2284 every day that your child will be absent from school.
In addition, if you plan to take your child out of school for a vacation, you must contact me, Mrs. Duchow, to excuse the absence and make plans for making up the work PRIOR to the vacation.
Recess and brain breaks
We know that these "covid rules" make for long days. We want you to know that our kids get 30 minutes of recess right before lunch each day. In addition, our teachers take them out for additional breaks in the afternoon (Kindergarten also goes in the morning). Teachers give many brain breaks throughout the day as well. We won't let the Covid blues get us down!
